Community service

What we tend

We do more than garden — we cultivate community.

Most of what the club does happens outside our meetings — in the town's gardens, the elementary schools, and the senior center.

Lightkeepers Cottage
Senior floral design

The Lightkeepers Cottage Garden on Government Island has been created and maintained by this club since 1993. It is our largest ongoing commitment and our most visible one.

Town beautification

The Cohasset Historical Society garden, the POW Garden on the island at North Main Street, and seasonal plantings around town, including Memorial Day.

Junior Gardeners

Children in grades 3 through 5 at Deer Hill Elementary School plant seeds and bulbs in pots and in the school courtyard, learn how to make our gardens pollination friendly, and create nature-related arts and crafts projects.

Design sessions at Willcutt Commons, 91 Sohier Street. Everyone takes an arrangement home. Registration is through the Senior Center.

Floral Design Competition

Floral design is a serious craft in this Club, and these are where our members show it.

Art in Bloom. Each spring our designers travel to the Museum of Fine Arts for Art in Bloom, creating arrangements interpreting works of art in the collection.

Books in Bloom. Every other year the Club invites its members to interpret a favorite book at the Paul Pratt Library.

The Traveling Bike

Begun in 2020, during the pandemic, to keep the Club visible and lift spirits when there was little else going on, the Bike is replanted multiple times during our garden club season and moved around town. It has long outlasted the circumstances that created it.
